Are Turkish Universities globally recognized?

University And Program Diversity

With the increasing interest in studying in Turkey by students worldwide, Turkish universities are working hard to provide advanced educational resources and technologies and develop study programs and strong university degrees to attract more international students to continue their higher education in Turkey for various academic levels. However, despite the strength of the curriculum offered by Turkish universities, the question remains: are Turkish universities globally recognized? To answer this question, we must first understand the education system in Turkey.

Turkish Education System and Its Impact on International Recognition of Turkish Universities

Since 2001, Turkish universities have been implementing the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), which is used in all higher education institutions in European countries. This system is part of the Bologna Process, which Turkey joined with many European countries. The Turkish education system has been adjusted and updated according to the standards of the project, ensuring that students receive advanced higher education, whether in government or private Turkish universities.

The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) allows for easy student exchange between countries and higher education institutions across Europe that use this system, enabling students to continue their education and have their academic qualifications recognized. This means that your university degree from a Turkish university is recognized in many European countries.

Are Turkish Universities Globally Recognized?

Turkey is located in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and successfully implements the Bologna Process standards. As a result, degrees from Turkish universities are recognized in many countries worldwide, including European Union countries and many Arab countries. Additionally, partnerships established by Turkish universities with universities in other countries make it easier for students to transfer to those universities to complete their higher education and obtain globally recognized university degrees. Some countries may require graduates of Turkish universities to have their degrees evaluated and compared to the equivalent degree in those countries rather than directly recognizing Turkish university degrees.

In addition to the above, specific colleges and study programs can obtain special international accreditations and recognitions. For example, the Business Administration College at Özyeğin University has received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), placing it among the top business schools in the world alongside institutions like Stanford and Harvard Business Schools. Additionally, Altınbaş University has received accreditation from the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).
