Student Clubs and Activities

Every university has its own student clubs where students can share their interests and organize events. These clubs range from an astronomy community that tracks solar eclipses to a photography community that explores every street in the city. You could join an archaeological society that arranges visits to countless archaeological sites in Turkiye or show off your musical abilities by joining a jazz club. For foodies, there are gastronomy clubs that explore the unique tastes of Turkiye.

If you’re a cinema enthusiast, you might find a group that screens classics from both Turkish and world cinema, as well as contemporary films. And if you’re a die-hard Harry Potter fan, you might even be able to join a Quidditch team! Just ask and get involved in the activities that interest you!

Cinema and Theater

The number of cinemas in Turkiye is growing rapidly, with some located in city centers while others are situated in shopping malls. These cinemas usually feature popular films that are shown almost simultaneously with the rest of the world. Additionally, there are smaller theaters that showcase alternative and independent films. Movies are typically shown in their original language with Turkish subtitles.

Major film festivals are hosted in various cities throughout Turkiye all year round, including the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, Istanbul Film Festival, Adana Golden Boll Film Festival, Ankara Film Festival, F Independent Films Festival, Mobile Film Festival, and Malatya International Film Festival. These festivals typically screen films in their original language, with Turkish and English subtitles available.

Three types of plays (theater) are available: state theaters, municipal theaters, and plays performed by private theaters. These performances feature works from both Turkish and international writers. Popular shows often sell out weeks in advance, so it’s important to plan ahead. Theatrical plays are performed in Turkish.

Discounted tickets for both cinema and theater are available for students. Simply present your student ID at the box office to receive the discount.

Concerts

If you’re a music enthusiast, Turkiye offers plenty of opportunities to listen to live music. You can check out local bands and artists in the city or attend concerts by famous musicians from across the country. With a wide range of musical genres available, from pop to classical Turkish music, Turkish folk music to hip hop, you will surely find a musical experience that suits your taste. It’s a good idea to join the music community at your school or make local friends who can suggest upcoming concerts and events.

Museums and Historical Sites

In addition to those in your city, several places throughout Turkiye are of great importance not only for Turkiye but also for world civilization. Sports Events

Turkiye is a country that is genuinely passionate about sports, with football, basketball, and volleyball being the most popular. The national leagues for these sports are highly competitive and enjoyable to watch, with tickets mostly sold online.

If you’re not only a viewer but also a sports enthusiast, you can take advantage of sports facilities offered by your university either for free or for a small fee. You can participate in tournaments held at your school or join the school team if you’re ambitious.

Shopping Malls

Almost every town in Turkiye has a large shopping mall where you can meet all your shopping needs and visit entertainment centers. These places are particularly crowded before weekends and festive holidays.
