Renewing Your Student Residence Permit Annually in Türkiye
Online Application Process
Required Documents
If You Miss the Deadline
Important Notes
1. Timing of Application
Application Window: Students must initiate their online renewal application no earlier than 60 days before the expiration of their current permit and no later than the expiration date itself.
Recommendation: It is advisable to apply as soon as the 60-day window opens to avoid missing deadlines or incurring penalties.
2. Online Application Process
Application Portal: To begin the process, visit the official online residence permit application page and select “extension of the duration of residence permit.”
Filling Out the Application: Complete all required fields and upload the necessary documents as instructed.
3. Required Documents
Prior to submitting your application, prepare the following documents:
- Student Certificate: A current certificate or letter from your university confirming ongoing enrollment.
- Photographs: Four recent passport-sized biometric photos.
- Valid Passport: Original passport along with copies of the identification page, visa, and entry stamp.
- Current Residence Permit: If available, include your existing residence permit card.
- Proof of Accommodation: This can be a certificate from your neighborhood head (mukhtar) or confirmation from the housing administration for dormitory residents.
- Health Insurance: A valid health insurance policy covering the entire requested duration (typically one or two years).
- Payment Proof: Confirmation of the payment for the student residence permit renewal fee.
4. If You Miss the Deadline
Should your residence permit expire, you have 10 days to apply for a first-time permit. During this window, you must submit a formal petition in Turkish, explaining your late application to the authorities.
If the application is not submitted within these 10 days, you will be required to leave Türkiye, potentially incur penalties for overstaying, and will need to reapply upon return.
Important Notes
- Ensure your passport is valid for at least 60 days beyond the expiry of your intended renewed permit.
- The renewal process necessitates evidence of current legal stay and active student status. Without the required documentation, your renewal request may be denied.
- Proactive action is advisable; starting the renewal process early can help avoid last-minute issues related to incomplete documentation or overstaying.
- Students should seek guidance from their university’s international student office for additional support throughout the process.
