Amasya University Overview

Amasya University is located in the city of Amasya, a historically significant city where Ottoman princes and sultans were once raised and educated to prepare for leadership. Successive Turkish governments have worked to preserve the city’s historical and cultural heritage by establishing educational institutions aimed at fostering a well-educated generation committed to progress, civilization, and technology. In pursuit of this goal, the Turkish Ministry of National Education opened a higher education institute in Amasya in 1974, followed by a technical education institute in 1975. In 1982, both institutes were affiliated with 19 Mayıs University in the neighboring city of Samsun. Finally, on March 17, 2006, the Turkish government transformed the two institutes into Amasya University through Parliamentary Decree No. 26111. Today, Amasya University stands as one of Turkey’s growing public universities. It consists of 6 faculties, more than 40 academic departments, multiple scientific laboratories, and research centers focusing on political, social, scientific, and technological studies—many of which receive direct support from the Turkish government. The university also features a comprehensive scientific library with a vast collection of books and scholarly resources.
