On average, students should expect to spend between $1,000 and $1,500 per month to cover housing, food, transportation, and personal expenses. Renting a shared apartment typically costs between $400 and $700, while monthly groceries and meals add another $250 to $350. Utilities and internet usually range from $80 to $120, and public transportation with a student card is about $20 to $30 per month. Students who choose more central or modern housing, or who prefer a more comfortable lifestyle, may see their total costs rise closer to $1,500 or more.
At Bilkent, all undergraduate programs (except Law) are officially taught in English, and this is strictly enforced. Lectures, course materials, assignments, and exams are in English. Even Turkish professors are required to maintain English instruction, making Bilkent one of the most consistent universities in Turkey in this regard.
Yes, international students can apply for double major and minor programs. To qualify, you must complete your first semester and meet the GPA requirements — usually 3.30 for double majors and 2.50 for minors. Some departments also require a faculty interview or internal approval due to competitiveness.
Only partially. Bilkent requires official proof of English proficiency — either TOEFL iBT (min 87) or the university’s own proficiency exam. A diploma from an English-medium school is not enough on its own. Even if you studied entirely in English, you must pass a test to skip the prep year.
Transfers into Bilkent are highly competitive. The university reviews your GPA, course compatibility, and academic rigor of your current institution. Few seats are available, and acceptance is more common in Engineering or Humanities than in fields like Business or Architecture. External transfers rarely receive scholarship continuity.
Bilkent has a diverse international student body, but social integration depends on your engagement. While classes are mixed and inclusive, many clubs and events naturally operate in Turkish. However, there are international student societies and events organized in English. Students who actively participate in campus life generally find integration easier over time.
