Marmara University Overview

Founded officially in 1883, Marmara University traces its roots back to 1883 and is one of the largest and most prestigious public universities in Turkey. Located in the Asian side of Istanbul, it is accredited by the Turkish Council of Higher Education (YÖK), and YÖS (Foreign Student Exam) is required for admission. As Turkey’s second-largest university, Marmara University has around 60,000 students and a faculty and administrative staff of approximately 2,839 employees. The university offers 136 undergraduate programs, 45 master’s programs, and 14 doctoral programs across 13 faculties, 9 vocational schools, 11 graduate institutes, and 31 research centers. Marmara University is the only university in Turkey that offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in four languages: Turkish, English, French, and German. Among its notable alumni is President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who graduated from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
