Before the establishment of Yıldırım Beyazıt University (YBU), Ankara had only four public universities: Ankara University, Gazi University, Middle East Technical University (METU), and Hacettepe University. With the founding of YBU in 2010, Ankara now hosts five public universities, providing students with modern, high-quality education at affordable costs. Officially founded by Turkish Parliament Law No. 27648 on June 21, 2010, the university began its academic operations on November 3, 2011. YBU was established with the mission of offering a contemporary and globally connected education, promoting innovation and intellectual openness while moving beyond geographically confined academic approaches. Despite being a relatively young university, YBU brings together highly experienced academics, many of whom previously worked at prestigious universities in Turkey and Europe. The university currently has around 915 faculty members, including professionals from major international institutions.
