Short Programs in Türkiye

Turkish universities offer a variety of short-term academic programs for international students who wish to study in Türkiye for a semester or a full academic year. These programs allow students to experience Turkish academic life and culture while earning credits that can often be transferred back to their home institutions.

Exchange-Based Short Programs

Most short programs operate under existing university exchange agreements, such as:

  • Erasmus+

  • Bilateral partnerships

  • Regional cooperation initiatives

Students enrolled in a home university with a partner agreement can:

  • Study in Türkiye for 1 or 2 semesters

  • Transfer earned credits back to their degree program

  • Benefit from tuition waivers or reduced fees

Check with your university’s International Office to see if it has active exchange agreements with Turkish universities.

Independent Short-Term Study (Special Student Status)

If your home university does not have an exchange agreement with a Turkish institution, you can still apply directly to a Turkish university as a special-status short-term student.

These programs:

  • Allow you to take undergraduate or graduate-level courses

  • May or may not count toward your degree (check with your home institution)

  • Often focus on Turkish culture, society, language, or politics

Application details and eligibility requirements vary by university—visit individual Turkish university websites for program-specific information.

Cultural & Academic Cooperation

Many short programs are designed as part of international cooperation projects, promoting mutual understanding and academic exchange. These initiatives often include:

  • Joint programs between Turkish and foreign universities

  • Thematic studies in history, international relations, or Middle Eastern studies

  • Language and cultural immersion
