Student Visa

All international students must obtain a student visa before entering Türkiye. A student visa is a mandatory requirement for university registration and residence permit applications. Students arriving without a valid student visa will not be permitted to register at the university or apply for a residence permit once in Türkiye.

Student visa applications must be submitted to the nearest Turkish embassy or consulate in the applicant’s country of residence. Student visas cannot be issued within Türkiye.

To apply, students must submit:

  • A Letter of Acceptance from a recognized Turkish higher education institution
  • A completed student visa application form (available from the consulate)
  • Any additional documents required by the consulate

Visa processing times may vary, but students are advised to apply at least 8 weeks prior to their intended travel date. Once approved, the student visa will be stamped in the applicant’s passport.

Visa Categories Related to Education

Students can apply for a visa under the following categories:

  • Education Purpose

  • Course Purpose

  • Turkish Language Course

  • Internship (including Erasmus+ and AIESEC)

  • Study in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

Important: Visa regulations are subject to change. Please consult the official website of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the e-Consulate system

(www.e-konsolosluk.net) for the most up-to-date information.

Tourist Visa (Not for Study)

Most travelers may enter Türkiye with a tourist visa, obtained either online (e-Visa) or as a sticker visa upon arrival, depending on nationality. However, a tourist visa does not allow university registration or residence permit applications, and cannot be converted to a student visa inside the country.

If eligible, tourists can purchase a sticker visa at airports, seaports, or land borders by presenting a valid passport and paying the visa fee. The process is quick and does not require background checks.

Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your planned arrival date in Türkiye.
